The Anapot: a USB-powered potentiostat
The Anapot is a low cost and portable usb potentiostat with a small footprint suitable for research grade applications. Manufactured by Zimmer and Peacock, this potentiostat features 8 current ranges and a resolution of up to 1 pA at the lowst current range. This makes this usb potentiostat an ideal choice for electrochemical biosensor development.
To power this potentiostat you don’t need a power cord, since the USB cable works also provides the power to the device. Thus, less cables are required to operate it leading to a cleaner workspace.
In terms of connections for running electrochemical measurements, this USB potentiostat offers 2 options:
- An integrated SPE connector for 0.6 mm electrodes
- An LM4 connection, ideal for connecting crocodile clip cables

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a potentiostat?
A potentiostat is an electronic instrument used to control the potential (voltage) of an electrochemical cell with respect to a known reference electrode.
What is a USB potentiostat?
A USB potentiostat is a compact and portable electrochemical measurement instrument that is powered through a USB connection to a computer or other device.
How does it work?
A USB-powered potentiostat works by controlling the potential of an electrochemical cell and measuring the current that flows through the cell. The potentiostat applies a potential difference between the working electrode and reference electrode, and the current that flows through the between the counter and working electrode is measured.
What type of applications is it suitable for?
A USB-powered potentiostat is suitable for a variety of electrochemical applications, such as corrosion studies, battery research, electrocatalysis and biosensors.
What are the technical specifications of this product?
The technical specifications are described in detail in the specifications section above.
What software is required to use the potentiostat?
This potentiostat can be used with PSTrace and Lisa Analytics.
How do I connect the potentiostat to my computer or other device?
The USB-powered potentiostat can be connected to a computer or other device through a USB connection.
Can the potentiostat be used with multiple operating systems?
This potentiostat is compatible with Windows 7 or later (32-bit or 64-bit) and has the following minimum requirements to run the software of:
- 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
- 2 GB RAM (32-bit) or 4 GB RAM (64-bit)
What type of electrode and cell can be used with this potentiostat?
This potentiostat is compatible with 2 and 3 electrode electrochemical cells. For SPEs, we recommend using the in-built edge connector. For traditional 2 and 3 electrode electrochemical cells we recommend using either crocodile clip or banana plug connections via the LM4 port. Remember that to perform 2 electrode electrochemical cell experiments both counter and reference electrode terminals need to be connected to the same electrode.
How can I get technical support or request additional information about the product?
You can get technical support by contacting the manufacturer, Zimmer & Peacock or by getting in touch with us via our online contact form.
